Two kinds of ignorance

  • Innocent ignorance: You have never been exposed to the information.
  • Willing ignorance: You have been exposed to the content and you have willingly chosen to ignore it.

Either way, you are going to stay simple.

Psa.19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Psa.119:130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Pro.1:4  To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

Note what Paul says at the end of Romans,

Avoid those that cause division, that deceive the hearts of the simple!!

Rom.16:17-18  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  (18)  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Romans was given to you to keep you from being simple. If you stay ignorant of the Romans foundation, you're going to remain simple in understanding and will be led astray. So, this epistle is the key to your foundation in Paul’s doctrine! Without Romans you cannot move into the spiritual depths of God's wisdom and knowledge presented in Paul’s subsequent epistles, which builds upon the Romans foundation, with cornerstone concepts: Paul’s gospel of grace, the establishment of ‘the faith’, our understanding of the old man and the new man, our spiritual sanctification subjected to the mind of Christ, an introduction to the mysteries, and encouragement and advice to walk in the mercies of God’s grace. Romans is the first great step into understanding God’s Word.
