🌿 New Series: "Freed by a Better Law"
Too many believers live weighed down by guilt, failure, or fruitless effort—because they’re still walking by the flesh, not by the Spirit. But God has given us something better: the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
This 5-day devotional series will walk you through Romans 8:2 and its surrounding truths. We’ll learn the difference between walking in death and walking in life. No hype—just truth that sets us free.
Let’s rediscover who we are in Christ and how to live like it.
Part 1/5 — The Default Law We’re Born Into
We all start under the law of sin and death. You don’t have to be evil to be under it. You just have to be... you. Born in Adam. Living by sight, driven by emotion, trying to do your best. Sounds noble—but apart from Christ, it’s all flesh. And flesh profits nothing (Rom. 7:18; 8:8).
Even good works, if they spring from self, cannot please God. That’s the tragedy: religion without regeneration is still death. Morality without the Spirit is still enmity with God.
The law of sin and death isn’t just about wickedness—it’s about separation. A life lived apart from the Spirit is already under a sentence. The end of that way is condemnation, no matter how well-intentioned it appears (Rom. 6:21; 8:6).
We need more than behavior change—we need a new law altogether.
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” — Romans 8:8
🛑 Pause and reflect: Am I relying on self, or on God’s truth?
Part 2/5 Salvation Doesn’t Erase the Flesh
When we believed the gospel, we were saved— fully, eternally, perfectly. But salvation doesn’t erase the flesh. If we don’t renew our minds with truth, the law of sin and death will continue to govern our thoughts, emotions, and habits. We’ll think like the world. React like the world. Struggle like the world. Not because we’re unsaved—but because we’re uninformed and unrenewed.
Romans 12:2 doesn’t say “try harder” —it says “be transformed.” By what? The renewing of your mind. The Word rewires us. It reprograms the default. That’s how we shift from defeat to discernment, from condemnation to confidence.
🔄 Ask yourself: Am I walking in newness of life—am I still thinking the way I used to?
Part 3/5 A Higher Law Now Governs Us
The law of the Spirit of life isn’t just an idea—it’s the power that sets you free from sin’s grip. But it works only as you reckon it true. Romans 6:11 calls us to embrace a new reality: you’re not trying to die to sin—you’re already dead to it in Christ. You're alive unto God, with His Spirit governing your walk.
Romans ch.6–8 teaches that freedom isn’t achieved by trying harder, but by knowing deeper: — You’re crucified with Christ (6:6) — You’re no longer a servant of sin (6:18) — You’re delivered from law and condemnation (7:6, 8:1) — You’re in the Spirit, not in the flesh (8:9)
Don’t admire these verses— believe them. Let truth shape your thoughts, your voice, your steps. The Spirit operates in truth-believing hearts, not performance-driven minds.
🕊️ You are governed now by life. Live like it.
Part 4/5 Truth Must Be Lived, Not Just Learned
Knowing we are under a higher law is one thing. Walking in it is another.
Paul doesn’t just teach positional truth—he calls for practical living. Romans 8:4 says “that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” That walk is daily. Intentional. Spirit-led.
And it requires mind renewal. Romans 8:5-6 makes the contrast clear: — Carnal minds lead to death. — Spiritual minds lead to life and peace.
You can't walk in the Spirit without setting your mind on the Spirit. That means saturating your thoughts with Romans 6–8 truth: 🔹 I'm dead to sin. 🔹 I'm alive unto God. 🔹 I'm free from condemnation. 🔹 I'm indwelt by the Spirit.
Right believing leads to right walking. Truth must move from theology to traction.
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
🛤️ Ask yourself: Is my walk today Spirit-led—or is flesh quietly in the driver’s seat?
Part 5/5 — Living Fully in the Law of the Spirit of Life
This law isn’t just a doctrine—it’s the very rhythm of the believer’s life. And it has fruit.
Paul describes the outcome: ✔️ No condemnation (Rom. 8:1) ✔️ Freedom from sin’s grip (Rom. 8:2) ✔️ A Spirit-led walk (Rom. 8:4) ✔️ Life and peace (Rom. 8:6) ✔️ Sonship and assurance (Rom. 8:15–16) ✔️ Hope and transformation (Rom. 8:18–29)
This is what it looks like when the law of the Spirit governs a heart, a mind, a life.
Not striving. Not performing. Not pretending. Just truth believed, Spirit yielded to, fruit produced.
🥀 The law of sin and death says, “Try harder and fail.” 🕊️ The law of the Spirit of life says, “Believe truth and walk free.”
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” — Romans 8:16
✅ Today, live by the law that already governs you in Christ. Rest in it. Walk in it. Bear its fruit.
