The Law Is All or Nothing—But Grace Is Everything

Image
If a man seeks to be justified by the law, he must keep  all  of it. Scripture does not permit selective obedience: “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” —  James 2:10 “Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” —  Galatians 3:10 “I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.” —  Galatians 5:3 The Law Was Made for the Unrighteous The law was not designed for the righteous, but to expose and restrain sin: “Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners…” —  1 Timothy 1:9 The law reveals sin, but it cannot remove it. It condemns, but cannot justify. We Are Not Under Law, But Under Grace Through Christ, we are freed from the law’s condemnation—not to sin freely, but to live freely  from  sin: “For s...

The Law That Sets You Free

Image
Romans 8:2 — “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” There are two laws at work in this world—and in your walk. The first is the law of sin and death . It’s the spiritual gravity we were all born under. You don’t have to rebel or shake a fist at God to be under it—just stay as you are. Be yourself. Live by your own understanding. Even your best attempts to be good, to be kind, to be religious—if done in the flesh—are still tangled in a law that leads only to death. It’s what Paul called “another law in my members... bringing me into captivity” (Romans 7:23). But there's another law. A higher one. A liberating one. It’s the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus . This law doesn’t rest on your strength, performance, or discipline. It flows from the life of Christ in you. The Holy Spirit empowers it, the Word of God reveals it, and faith activates it. It begins the moment you believe, but it grows stronger as you renew y...

Paul’s Travail—Christ Formed by the Spirit, Not the Flesh

Image
Gal.4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, Paul’s heart ached for the Galatians. He had laboured to bring them the gospel of grace, yet now he found them drifting—attempting to serve Christ through their own efforts, clinging to the law as a means of righteousness. With deep sorrow, he likened his anguish to the pains of childbirth, longing for Christ to be formed in them—not by works, but by the Spirit. The Galatians had fallen into the trap of self-reliance, believing that obedience to the law could perfect what had begun in the Spirit. But Paul knew the truth: righteousness is not achieved by human willpower or fleshly striving. It is received by faith, through the Spirit, as the Word of God renews the mind and transforms the heart. Today, we face the same temptation—to measure our spiritual growth by effort rather than surrender. Yet Paul’s plea remains: Christ is formed in us not by our own strength, but by the Spirit working throu...

Yield (Newness of life and spirit)

Image
It cannot be clearer that our transformation in sanctification is connected to the mind. It is a process of learning and adopting a new doctrine, increasing in its knowledge and understanding and becoming more and more influenced by it in our lives.  … even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Rom.6:4)  … that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter (Rom.7:6) Notice the word, ‘should’ . Is this a choice (or optional ) instead of a command like ‘must’? These two references are dependent on each other. We cannot walk in newness of life (an outward expression of Christ) if we are not renewed of the spirit, (small ‘s’…the written word, Jn.6:63). Conversely, being renewed of the spirit results ultimately in walking in newness of life. ______________ Please share these with friends and family. His cross marks the start of your salvation, His resurrection is God's power to run the race and win the prize of the high calling of God

Image
The blood shed by Jesus Christ on the cross was the pinnacle of sacrifice and love and accomplished our redemption through the forgiveness of sins. Romans 4:25 confirms this absolute fact, Rom 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.  But there is more to that verse than being delivered from our offenses by the propitiation (appeasement, satisfaction) of His blood. There is also the power of God which raised up Christ from the dead for our justification. Not only did His resurrection justify us, declaring or making us righteous in the sight of God, but that same power also became the source for our ability to walk in newness of life, Rom 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.   Many believers think of the death and resurrection of Christ as the work done by God's grace to sa...

Being led by the Spirit comes from your knowledge of the Word of God

Image
Our principal duty as believers, which is also the will of God for us, is to come to the knowledge of the truth, 1Tim.2:4. How do we come to the knowledge of the truth? We study the written Word of truth and learn how to rightly divide it, 2Tim.2:15. We allow the Word of God to dwell in us richly, Col.3:16. We allow it to renew our mind so that it makes us wise unto its doctrine, allowing it to reprove, correct, and instruct us. Being led by the Spirit of God is not being led by some ethereal voice or premonitions, but rather, it is simply having a knowledge and understanding of the written Word within you. You walk by the Spirit (or walk by faith) when you obey the truth of God’s Word, applying it to your life circumstances and scenarios. Notice what Paul says here, Rom.6:16  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17  But God be thanked, that ye were t...

What does that mean to walk after the Spirit?

Image
Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Let me use ‘leading the blind’ as an example. If I'm a blind man, how do I live my life? I need someone else who can see to take me by the hand and lead me through this world. Now, in this context, who’s the blind man? That's us: we're blind. We need the Spirit to be out in front of us leading us through life saying, do this and don't do that. And where do those instructions come from? It’s all in the Word of God, and more specifically, in Paul’s epistles. This is not something that's given to us when we get saved. We are instantaneously justified by the grace of God when we believe the grace gospel, but our walk is a different matter. We grow in sanctification, through seeking to learn God’s Word, drinking it in, being filled with its knowledge, then submitting ourselves in obedience to it. This is the Spirit of God; it is holy and ...

God saves people because they believe in His Son, not because they are ‘led by the Spirit’

Image
Anyone NOT born again of The Holy Spirit is NOT Saved - John 3:3, 5 Anyone Who Doesn't Have the Same Spirit as Jesus is NOT Saved - Romans 8:9 Anyone NOT Led by the Holy Spirit is NOT Saved - Romans 8:14 The above responses are typical of people who comment on doctrine and bible studies through ignorance and immaturity. God saves people because they believe in His Son, not because they are ‘led by the Spirit’. Being led by the Spirit is a product of studying the Word and getting it into your soul. To the extent that the Word of God is in you, is the extent that it flows out of you. When the Word flows out of you and influences your thoughts, behaviours, reactions and speech, then you are led by the Holy Spirit. Walking by the Spirit is the outflow of the Word of God within you. Nothing more, nothing less. Salvation occurs BEFORE being led by the Spirit. Salvation does not depend on being led by the Spirit. How do we live in the spirit if we are in the flesh?

Image
Romans 8:1 refers to our daily walk as believers rather than our initial salvation. The term "condemnation" in Rom.8:1 refers to self-condemnation, not eternal damnation. When we are not walking in our identity under grace, we find ourselves falling into Law, which brings this condemnation. In Romans 7, Paul expresses misery due to legalism rather than grace, and the term "therefore" in our key verse connects to all those emotions in Romans 7, which depicts a believer overwhelmed by self-condemnation, mirroring the defeat and depression of many Christians today.  Believers should not continue in a mindset of ignorance to Paul's doctrine, as sin is inevitable. To live in accordance with the Spirit, we must align our thoughts with our new identity in Christ, and this comes by studying and applying our grace doctrine in Paul's epistles. When we become transformed by the renewing of our mind, we start to walk by the Spirit (of the Word), and we grow in conform...

Fruit of the Spirit

Image
It is important to note that the Spirit mentioned in Gal.5:22-23 is not referring to the human spirit, but rather the Holy Spirit within believers. It is the presence of God's Spirit within them that produces the "fruit of the Spirit", seen as virtues that are evident in those who “walk in the Spirit.” These virtues are not achieved through human effort but are behaviors that develop naturally in a believer as they release themselves in obedience to the Spirit. The "fruit of the Spirit" are qualities that are not typically valued by society. While the world may admire traits like self-confidence and authority, the Spirit encourages qualities such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Consider the difference. These spiritual qualities create a harmonious environment for those around them, in contrast to the isolating traits of self-reliance and power that the world admires. As Paul says concerning spiritual...

How can we keep the law to please God?

Image
QUESTION:  How can we keep the law to please God? ANSWER: We can't! People have tried for millennia and failed. Contrariwise, Paul tells us that the law was giving to increase sin and expose our wretchedness, Rom.7:10-13; 7:24. The commandments of God, which are holy, are actually death unto me because all they can do is condemn me, Rom. 6:23. However, in 1Tim.1:9, Paul declares that there are righteous men. So, how did they become righteous if God's commandments condemn them? Well, it's because righteousness (no condemnation, Rom.8:1) comes through the faith of Jesus Christ, not our adherence to the law, Rom.3:22. Once we are righteous, we grow in godliness by obedience to the knowledge of the written Word, Rom.6:16; 2Co.10:5. By obedience we start to walk by the Spirit, mortifying the flesh, Rom.8:13, and we come to produce the fruit of the Spirit, which, as Paul says, “… against such there is no law”, Gal.5:23. Thus, we keep the law by obedience to the Word, through a...

Contrasting Administrations

Image
The two administrations are vastly different. In Adam's, sin, condemnation, and death reigns. In Christ's, justification, grace, and life reigns. When we are transferred into Christ’s administration, our spiritual position with God is utterly changed. We might still be in the flesh, but our spiritual standing with God is one of grace, peace, and atonement, because of Christ’s cross work, and His righteousness imputed to us. This new standing with God is grounded upon our spiritual identity in Christ and is not dependent on our current state in the flesh. Consequently, even though we still live in the flesh, it explains why Paul can confidently write that we are declared to be dead to sin, meaning that the effects and penalty of sin, is not sentenced to us. In addition, Paul can declare that we are dead to the law because of the death of Christ, allowing us to be joined, by His resurrection, to a new ‘contract’ of justification, grace, and life, Rom 7:4-6. Walking in the Spirit equates to walking in obedience to the written Word

Image
According to Paul’s writings we are to obey the living Word within us. You see, when we read the Word and fill ourselves with it, then it starts to renew our mind. It starts to influence our thoughts and actions. Giving ourselves over to obey the knowledge that the Word stablishes within us is what we obey unto righteousness. So, for clarity, we obey that form of doctrine that is inside us. As we do, we walk by the Spirit and mortify the deeds of the flesh. We obey the living Word by allowing it to work itself out of us. This is liberty and freedom in grace. Can you see that walking in the Spirit is not some ultra-spiritual force that moves you left and right, or brings you visions or voices in your head! There is no mysticism or deep spiritual senses involved. It is simply a matter of knowing and applying God's Word in situations with the desire to please God through simple but committed obedience to Paul's grace doctrine. ______________ Join my WhatsApp channel to receive th...

If Jesus gave his disciples the Holy Spirit in Jn 20:22, why did they receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost again?

Image
According to Old Testament references, regarding kings and priests, and those in Acts, regarding the kingdom believers, the Holy Spirit can UPON them, to empower them for their purpose or function at that time. The Holy Spirit did not reside permanently WITHIN them. David wrote in Ps 51:11-12 that the Lord take not His Spirit from David. In 1Sa 16:14 the Spirit of the Lord left king Saul. In Act 1:8 it is written that the Holy Spirit came upon them, for the ‘short work’ that the Lord would do at that time, Rom 9:28. Also, in Act 4:31, the believers prayed for boldness and were again filled with the Holy Spirit. It is only when the promise of the New Covenant blessing comes, at the second coming of Jesus, when the Spirit will be placed WITHIN the Kingdom believer as prophesied in Ezekiel.  Eze 36:26  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put WITHIN you:  ______________ Join my WhatsApp channel to receive these quick Bible lessons on your phone: https://...

Be renewed in the spirit of your mind

Image
God still has work to do concerning our outward man, and we still have work to do concerning our inward man. While He has yet to redeem our physical bodies, which are falling apart, we should focus on our inward man, which should be growing.  The key to Christian living is letting Jesus Christ teach you how He wants to live His life in and through you. It is not something you struggle to do, but something you daily learn from His Word rightly divided. Faith causes the Holy Spirit to take that Word and change your thinking processes, and that will change your conduct to fit God’s grace. Colossians 3:10 adds: “And [ye] have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him….” See also:  Rom 12:1-2 ...be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind Eph 4:20-23 ...and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; We are to be daily building up the inner man through knowledge and obedience to God's Word, preparing for the day when God relocates it to...

Paul's Credibility #4

Image
In 2 Cor.5:16, Paul says an incredible statement! "Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer" . You might think that Paul is blaspheming! How could Paul say this? Well, it's not that we forget Christ. Never! Paul means that we do not know him in his earthly ministry, which was under prophecy and to the Jews only (Gal.4:4; Matt.10:6; Matt.15:24). Today, we recognize Jesus "according to the revelation of the mystery", Rom.16:25. Jesus' earthly ministry, teachings, and signs, were for the Jews, to prove His identity and prepare them for their earthly inheritance. We can read the 4-gospels today and receive nuggets of truth, but none of it is directed to us. Our instructions are written in Paul's 13-epistles, and these are the commands addressed and directed to us today. Paul's epistles help us to know Jesus according to the revelation of the mysteries. We must study the Bible dividing prophecy and mys...

Spiritual Growth

Image
When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, he praised them for their strong growth in faith, (2Thes.1:3). How did he know they were growing spiritually? Because of 3 important things: Paul commended them for their love and kindness to one another (2Thes.1:3). They displayed patience, They had unwavering faith in persecution and tribulations they faced for the sake of Christ (2Thes.1:4).  Without true love, there can be no real spiritual growth, (1Co.13:1-8). Also, staying positive in tribulation is a clear sign of spiritual growth. These attributes demonstrated their spiritual maturity and their reliance on Christ's indwelling life.  So, what caused them grow spiritually? Only one thing! They received the Word of God as the truth, not just the words of men (1Thes.2:13). They had genuine interest in the scriptures and allowed the truths they learned to transform their lives. From the above we can learn, 'What is true spiritual growth', and also, 'How does it come about'.
