I'd like to recap the key learnings in 3-parts before we move on to 1 Corinthians (with a new format).  In Romans 1-5 we learned that everyone, both Jew and Gentile, stands guilty before God. No amount of religious ritual or moral effort can fix our sin problem. But then we hit the turning point in Romans 3:21. We saw that God's righteousness is revealed completely apart from the law. We are justified freely by His grace. This is not a process we maintain. It is a legal declaration of innocence purchased by the blood of Christ and received simply by faith. Building upon our justification, sonship, and hope in suffering, he reveals how God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Rom.8:1) Today's Lesson The believer's position in Christ Jesus establishes an absolute standing of no condemnation. This foundational truth demonstrates that practical sanctification rests entirely upon settled justification. Where the Mosaic Law failed due to human weakness, God accomplished righteousness by sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. Christ condemned sin at the cross, satisfying divine justice so that sin no longer holds legal claim over the believer. Because this legal barrier is removed, the indwelling Spirit imparts immediate spiritual life based on Christ's imputed righteousness. ⏱️ 2-Minute Read | Part 5 of 16 The Gospel of Grace: A Walk Through Romans   Section 3: The Results of Justification (Romans 5) Peace and Standing in Grace Scripture Focus:   "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" (Rom.5:1) Today's Lesson  Romans 5 establishes the eternal security and present benefits that flow directly from being justified by faith. First, justification grants complete peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This peace is not a temporary emotional feeling, but a permanent legal standing (read that again!!) where all enmity between God and the believer is abolished. Through Christ, we have present access into this grace wherein we stand, enabling us to rejoice even in tribulations. Paul emphasises that divine love operates on an entirely different plane from human affection. Part 4 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Rom.4:23-25 Scripture Focus: "Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification." (Rom.4:25) Today's Lesson Paul closes the chapter by turning Abraham's story toward us. The words "it was imputed to him" were not written for Abraham's sake alone. They were written for our sake also, upon whom righteousness is imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead. This is where the doctrine of imputed righteousness stops being a distant Old Testament account and becomes your own possession. The same principle that credited righteousness to Abraham now applies to you: you believe, and God credits. But Paul does not leave the ground of that credit unexplained. He names two finished acts of Christ. He was delivered for our offences, and He was raised again for our justification. Notice the order and the precision. Part 1 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Rom.4:1-8 Scripture Focus: "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." (Rom.4:5) Today's Lesson Paul opens the chapter by asking what Abraham, the father of the nation, actually found in the flesh. The answer cuts straight through religious assumption. If Abraham had been justified by works, he would have something to boast in before God. But the Scripture settles the matter plainly: Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Notice the direction of that transaction. Righteousness was not earned and then awarded. It was credited to a man who had nothing to present. Paul then presses the point with a simple distinction from ordinary life. Wages are not grace. A man who works receives what is owed to him. But the man who does not work, yet believes on the God who justifies the ungodly, has his faith counted for righteousness. This i...

Part 4 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Romans 3:27-31 Scripture Focus: “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” (Rom.3:28) Today’s Lesson Having shown that righteousness comes through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Paul now draws out the practical conclusion: boasting is excluded. If a sinner could contribute anything toward his own justification, he would have something to glory in. But because justification rests entirely upon what Christ has done, nothing is left for man to claim. Paul says it is excluded, not by a law of works, but by the law of faith. The conclusion is plain: a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. The word “without” matters. Faith is not mixed with works to complete the job, and works are not a supplement to faith. In the matter of justification, God separates them entirely. The believer is declared righteous because he believes God, not because he performs for God. This truth also remov...

After proving the whole world guilty under the law, Paul reveals that the righteousness of God is manifested “without the law”. This righteousness is not earned, achieved or improved by religious effort. The law and the prophets witness to it, yet it stands apart from them. Verse 22 tells us how it is received: by the faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe. Notice “there is no difference”. The same verdict that stopped every mouth in verse 19 now brings the same remedy to everyone. Verse 23 repeats the problem: all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. When standing before a holy God, eternal standing rests entirely on a complete work. Scripture lays out the foundation of salvation with crystal clarity, dividing it into three distinct elements that secure peace with the Father. The foundation begins with God's part , which is grace. Before anyone could reach toward heaven, God initiated the plan of redemption. "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" (Rom.3:24). This unmerited favor is the original source of salvation, extended to guilty sinners without cost or cause on their end. The payment comes through Christ's part , which is His blood. Divine justice demanded a perfect sacrifice, and Jesus fulfilled that demand entirely on the cross. "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." (Rom.5:9). Through this ultimate sacrifice, propitiation was fully made, satisfying the righteousness of God once for all. Both of t...

Rom 3:21-22  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;  22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: God’s righteousness demanded the fulfilling of the law, but after the cross of Christ, God’s righteousness no longer required the law. The law was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, and this was the propitiation that would appease God’s righteous requirement. Now, because of the cross, the grace of God is made available to all who believe in Jesus Christ. Faith in Jesus now allows God to impute the righteousness of His Son upon all who believe in Him.  The cross of Christ is the most remarkable event and symbol in the history of this world. In the Book of Romans, God uses the phrase "There is no difference" twice, once in Rom.3:22-23 and once in Rom.10:12-13. The first phrase in question speaks to the universal guilt of humanity, encompassing religious Jews, godless Gentiles, refined moralists, and uncivilized barbarians alike. The first three chapters examine their respective privileges and duties, weighing their arguments with due consideration. The verdict drawn is unequivocal: all are equally culpable, having sinned and fallen short of God's glory. The same phrase, when used a second time, pertains to salvation.  It underscores the abundance of God's mercy towards all who call upon His name, promising salvation to those who do so. God's impartiality is evident in both sin and salvation: all are equally accountable for sin and likewise, all have equal access to salvation.
