1 Corinthians 1: United in Mind and Judgement
Paul names two things that hold believers together, and most of us miss the difference.
📖 Key Verse (KJV):
“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1Cor.1:10)
📚 Today’s Lesson:
Paul asks for the same mind and the same judgement. Mind (nous) is how you think and perceive: one gospel, one Lord, one purpose. Judgement (gnome) is where that thinking lands, the conclusion you act on. The two work in sequence. In Corinth, minds were centered on Paul, Apollos, or Cephas, so judgements split and divisions followed. Paul’s remedy begins at the root. When the mind is set on Christ crucified, shared judgement becomes possible. This does not mean agreeing on everything, as Rom.14 shows. It means forming no factions around people and standing together on Christ.
📌 Reflection:
Is my mind anchored in Christ, so that my judgements toward others reflect His heart?
🌟 Practical Takeaway:
Today, set your mind on Christ crucified before you form an opinion or make a decision. Let that shared center guide you, especially with a believer who sees things differently. Hold your convictions without building walls. He has already joined you together. Let your judgements today show it.
