Romans 13 (Part 2): Love as the Fulfilling of the Law

(Rom.13:8) Today's Lesson The Apostle Paul transitions from our civil duties to our personal relationships with others under grace. While believers are instructed to pay all legal debts and obligations promptly, there is one ongoing debt that can never be fully settled: the obligation to love one another. Under the law, commandments were written on tables of stone as negative prohibitions against harming a neighbour. Under the dispensation of grace, God's love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, providing an inward motivation that exceeds the external demands of the law. When a believer walks after the Spirit and operates in divine love, they naturally fulfil the righteousness of the law without being under its legal yoke.
