Romans 10 (Part 3): Preaching the Gospel of Peace & Israel's Rejection

Part 3 of 3 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read

Passage: Romans 10:14-21

Scripture Focus:

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Rom.10:17)

Today's Lesson

In the concluding section of Romans 10, Paul addresses how the message was brought to national Israel and why their current condition remains one of fallen unbelief. Paul establishes a logical sequence for Israel's prophetic calling: how shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Paul quotes Isaiah 52:7—"How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace"—referring to the prophetic proclamation of Messiah's kingdom to Israel. God fully provided the message, the messengers, and the opportunity to His covenant people. Israel cannot claim ignorance as an excuse for their state. As Paul notes, "Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth" (v.18).

The tragedy of national Israel was not a lack of hearing, but a refusal to obey: "But they have not all obeyed the gospel" (v.16). Quoting Isaiah 65:2, Paul contrasts God's stance toward Israel with His present work: "All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people". While Israel stumbled through willful unbelief, God used their fall to provoke them to jealousy through those who were "no people"—opening the door of rich mercy to the Gentiles under our present dispensation of Grace.

⚙️ Grace Truth & Identity

While national Israel rejected their kingdom proclamation, we rest in the unmerited grace of God, who extended His mercy to us through the gospel of the Grace of God.

💡 Core Takeaway

Israel's present set-aside condition is the result of their own disobedient rejection of God's word, allowing God's rich mercy to be preached freely to all nations today. (Rom.10:16-21)

💬 For Meditation & Walk

Am I actively sharing the word of reconciliation, knowing that faith comes by hearing the rightly divided word of God?
