One Body, Many Banners

Ever noticed how easily Christians pick teams? 📖 1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. ...  Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” Context Corner Paul writes to the saints at Corinth, a church gifted yet fractured. Word came from the household of Chloe that members were lining up behind favourite teachers: Paul, Apollos, Cephas. Even the “I am of Christ” camp missed the point, turning His name into a party badge. Paul’s three questions in verse 13 expose the folly: Christ is one, only He was crucified for us, and baptism was never into a preacher’s name. Here’s the sting: a faction can rally around the best teachers and still lose sight of the Saviour they serve. Today, the Body of Christ is one body (Ephesians 4:3-4), so we ...

Romans 13 (Part 2): Love as the Fulfilling of the Law

Part 2 of 3 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Rom.13:8-10 Scripture Focus: "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law." (Rom.13:8) Today's Lesson The Apostle Paul transitions from our civil duties to our personal relationships with others under grace. While believers are instructed to pay all legal debts and obligations promptly, there is one ongoing debt that can never be fully settled: the obligation to love one another. Under the law, commandments were written on tables of stone as negative prohibitions against harming a neighbour. Under the dispensation of grace, God's love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, providing an inward motivation that exceeds the external demands of the law. When a believer walks after the Spirit and operates in divine love, they naturally fulfil the righteousness of the law without being under its legal yoke. True love produces no ill will, no deceit, and no harm toward anoth...

Romans 12 (Part 4): Practical Grace in Fellowship

Part 4 of 5 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Rom.12:9-16 Scripture Focus: "Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good." (Rom.12:9) Today's Lesson The Apostle Paul outlines a vibrant, active life of Christian fellowship—calling for love without dissimulation, patient endurance in trial, sincere hospitality, and sharing in both the joys and tears of fellow believers. This genuine affection is not a polite veneer or outward show; it is an active commitment to pursue the good of our brethren while maintaining a firm hatred for evil. However, this level of love and unity cannot be manufactured through human willpower or fleshly resolve. Trying to force ourselves into feeling selfless empathy or forcing acts of kindness out of legalistic obligation quickly leads to strain and burnout. This true, unfeigned love is not a product of our own strength; it is a profound work of God taking place within us. As our minds are renewed by the rightl...

Romans 12 (Part 3): Gifts and the Body of Christ

Part 3 of 5 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Rom.12:3-8 Scripture Focus: "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Rom.12:3) Today's Lesson Believers are called to maintain a balanced, sober view of themselves within the local assembly and the broader body of Christ. Paul cautions against spiritual pride, reminding us that any capacity or function we have is a gift received through grace. True humility is not self-deprecation; rather, it is recognizing our total dependence on God and seeing ourselves accurately through the lens of His word. Just as a physical body consists of many distinct members, each carrying out a specific role, so it is in Christ. No single believer possesses every spiritual gift, nor is any member independent of the others. We belong to one another, and our individual function...

Romans 3 (Part 4): Boasting Excluded, Faith Establishes the Law

Part 4 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read Passage: Romans 3:27-31 Scripture Focus: “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” (Rom.3:28) Today’s Lesson Having shown that righteousness comes through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Paul now draws out the practical conclusion: boasting is excluded. If a sinner could contribute anything toward his own justification, he would have something to glory in. But because justification rests entirely upon what Christ has done, nothing is left for man to claim. Paul says it is excluded, not by a law of works, but by the law of faith. The conclusion is plain: a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. The word “without” matters. Faith is not mixed with works to complete the job, and works are not a supplement to faith. In the matter of justification, God separates them entirely. The believer is declared righteous because he believes God, not because he performs for God. This truth also remov...

Grace, Patience, and Accommodation

In Acts 21, Paul joined in a purification rite at the Temple—not because he needed it for salvation, but to show respect and accommodation toward his fellow Jews who were zealous for the Law. He did this to quiet rumors and to build bridges, while never compromising the truth of the gospel of grace. Paul’s act reminds us that accommodation is not compromise. He remained steadfast in the doctrine revealed to him—that we are saved by grace through faith, apart from works of the Law. Yet he was patient, humble, and willing to walk alongside others in their journey, showing them respect while gently pointing them to the liberty we have in Christ. Today, we too are called to this balance: Accommodation : Respecting others’ convictions without judgment. Patience : Bearing with those who may not yet see the fullness of grace. Commitment to truth : Standing firm in the doctrine of grace, never wavering from the liberty we have in the Spirit. Paul’s example teaches us that our witness is strong...
