The Law is not the problem; it is holy, just, and good. Its divine design is not to impart righteousness or produce holy living, but to act as a mirror that exposes the true nature of sin. Before the commandment came to Paul’s conscience, sin lay dormant and unrecognised. But when the Law said, "Thou shalt not covet," sin seized the opportunity. (Rom.7:4) Today's Lesson The Law exercises authority over a person only as long as he lives. To explain this principle, the Apostle Paul uses the law of marriage. A married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is alive. If he dies, she is completely released from that binding covenant and is free to marry another without committing adultery. This legal truth illustrates the profound reality of our union with Jesus Christ. Through our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, our old man died.
