Romans 15 (Part 3): The Grace Given to Paul
Part 3 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read
Passage: Rom.15:14-21
Scripture Focus:
"But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand." (Rom.15:21)
Today's Lesson
In this section Paul explains the special ministry that God committed to him for the benefit of the Gentiles. Although he is confident in the spiritual growth of the Roman believers, he writes boldly because of the grace given to him by God. His calling was not self-appointed. It was a stewardship entrusted to him so that the Gentiles might hear and believe the gospel of Christ.
Paul describes himself as a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, magnifying the work that God was accomplishing through him. Yet he carefully gives all glory to Christ rather than to himself. Whatever success his ministry produced was the result of Christ working through him in word and deed. This reminds believers that spiritual fruit is ultimately God's work, not man's achievement.
A major emphasis of this passage is Paul's determination to preach Christ where He had not been named. His ambition was not to build upon another man's foundation but to carry the message of salvation into regions where people had never heard it. The focus was the spread of the gospel so that those without knowledge of Christ could come to understand God's grace.
These verses reveal a servant whose priorities were shaped by God's purpose rather than personal comfort, reputation, or ease.
🌱 Application
This passage encourages us to view our opportunities for testimony as gifts of grace rather than personal accomplishments. When God opens a door to share truth, encourage another believer, or explain the gospel, we can do so with humility, knowing that any lasting result comes from Him. For example, when someone expresses concerns about life or uncertainty about the future, you may have an opportunity to point them to Christ. Instead of relying on your own wisdom, you can trust the Lord to work through His Word and use your faithful witness for His purposes.
