Romans 4 (Part 4): Raised for Our Justification

Part 4 of 4 • ⏱️ 2-Min Read

Passage: Rom.4:23-25

Scripture Focus:

"Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification." (Rom.4:25)

Today's Lesson
Paul closes the chapter by turning Abraham's story toward us. The words "it was imputed to him" were not written for Abraham's sake alone. They were written for our sake also, upon whom righteousness is imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead. This is where the doctrine of imputed righteousness stops being a distant Old Testament account and becomes your own possession. The same principle that credited righteousness to Abraham now applies to you: you believe, and God credits. But Paul does not leave the ground of that credit unexplained. He names two finished acts of Christ. He was delivered for our offences, and He was raised again for our justification. Notice the order and the precision. His death dealt with the offences, the very sins that stood against us. His resurrection is the proof and provision of our justification. If Christ had remained in the grave, His death would have settled nothing. The resurrection is God's public declaration that the payment was accepted and the righteousness is real. The two cannot be separated. You are not justified by a dead martyr but by a living Lord. Your righteousness rests on an empty tomb as much as on a full cross. And this is credited to the one who believes, apart from works, exactly as it was to Abraham. The chapter ends where grace always ends: not in what you have done, but in what God has done in Christ, delivered and raised.

⚙️ Grace Truth & Identity
Your justification rests on the finished work of a risen Lord, His death for your offences and His resurrection for your justification, so your righteousness is as secure as the empty tomb.

💡 Core Takeaway
Christ was delivered for our offences and raised again for our justification, and this righteousness is imputed to all who believe. (Rom.4:24-25)

💬 For Meditation & Walk
Do you live as though your justification still depends on your performance, or as one who rests on the risen Lord whose resurrection settled it?
