The Eternal Word

John.1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

This verse establishes the absolute deity and pre-existence of Jesus Christ. Before anything was created, the Word already existed in perfect fellowship with the Father. He is not a created being, nor did He become God at some point in time; He has always been God. When we look at scripture through a rightly divided lens, we recognise that the One who later walked the earth to offer the Kingdom to Israel is the very same eternal Creator. This same Saviour accomplished our redemption on the cross, as revealed in the gospel of grace. Understanding His eternal nature gives us complete assurance. The work of salvation is secure because it was accomplished by God Himself in human flesh. When you trust in His finished work, you rest in the unchanging authority of the eternal Word who rules over all history.

Learning Point:

Our salvation is eternally secure because the Saviour who redeemed us is the uncreated God who has always existed.

Cross-Reference:

Col.1:16-17: — “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
